Strasburg 5K Walk and Fun Run Set For Saturday Morning

Stephen Strasburg will lead the runners at the start of the 5K on Saturday.

SAN DIEGO - The second annual Stephen Strasburg 5K Walk & Fun Run will be held this Saturday, January 28 at Tony Gwynn Stadium at San Diego State University. The event, fundraiser to benefit the Aztec baseball program, will feature the former Aztec All-American pitcher along with SDSU Head Coach Tony Gwynn and current players in attendance.

Race check-in/registration begins at 7:00 a.m. at the stadium. The 5K run will get underway at 8:25 a.m. with the walkers scheduled to start at 8:30. Awards will be presented to the top runners in each age group. The course is entirely within the beautiful San Diego State campus and free parking is available in Parking Structure 5 at the corner of Montezuma and 55th Streets.

Each participant will receive an all-inclusive package containing:
• Hand-signed, autographed Stephen Strasburg card for the first 1,500 entrants
• Hand-signed, autographed Tony Gwynn card for the first 1,500 entrants
• Commemorative Stephen Strasburg 5K Walk & Fun Run with Tony Gwynn t-shirt
• Two COMPLIMENTARY tickets to a 2011 Aztecs baseball game
• FREE SportClips haircut voucher for all paid entrants
• Capriotti's Sandwich voucher
• Free admission to the SDSU Women's Basketball game on Saturday at noon at Viejas Arena
• Race gift bag with amenities from walk/run sponsors

Due to the great sponsor support from the San Diego community, race participants will get a special opportunity to participate in free events and activities throughout the morning, including live music, a Kids Fun Zone with "bounce houses", a complimentary food court, and kids will be able to run the bases at Tony Gwynn Stadium following the 5K. In addition to Gwynn and Strasburg, other celebrities scheduled to attend include former Aztecs Addison Reed (White Sox) and Tony Gwynn Jr. (Dodgers) along with former Major Leaguer Bret Boone.

Registration for the Strasburg 5K is $45 for adults, $40 for active military, $25 for students and $25 for children ages 4-12. For more information and to register online for this event click here.
