Allen, Cederoth Named Preseason Baseball All-Americans
Feb. 4, 2014
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State juniors Greg Allen and Michael Cederoth have been named to Baseball America's 2014 Preseason All-America Team. Both Allen (Hilltop HS) and Cederoth (Steele Canyon HS) are local athletes who have earned second and third-team honors respectively.
Allen, SDSU's starter in center field the past two years, batted .299 last season with 11 doubles and 28 runs batted in. He led the Aztecs in runs scored (51), walks (36) and steals (25). His stolen base total was the highest by an SDSU player since the 2006 campaign. He was named to the all-tournament teams at both the Mountain West Championship and the NCAA Regional at UCLA.
Cederoth, a hard throwing right-handed pitcher who has been a member of the Aztecs' starting rotation during his first two season at SDSU, was a second-team all-Mountain West Conference selection in 2013. He led the league in strikeouts both overall and in conference contests. His 109 strikeouts last season rank ninth on the SDSU single-season list. Cederoth was also named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week after tossing eight shutout innings in a 2-0 win over Nevada.
San Diego State will get its 2014 season underway with a three-game conference series at San Jose State that kicks off with a contest on Friday, Feb. 14, at 6:00 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
The Aztecs' home opener comes four days later when they host Loyola Marymount on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
