Cederoth Earns Second MW Pitcher of the Week Award
May 12, 2014
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior right-hander Michael Cederoth has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week for games played from May 5-11. It marks the second such honor of the season for Cederoth (San Diego, Calif. / Steele Canyon HS), who made three appearances out of the bullpen last week recording a win and pair of saves.
At Long Beach State on Tuesday (May 6) he gave up an unearned run on an error that tied the game in the bottom of the eighth, but remained in the contest and picked up the win after his teammates rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth. He ended the contest by striking out the final two batters in the bottom of the ninth.
Cederoth then recorded saves in each of the final two contests vs. UNLV this past weekend. On Saturday (May 10) he went the final 2.2 innings allowing just a walk. He had three strikeouts including on two of the final three hitters he faced in the ninth.
On Sunday (May 11) he entered the game with one out in the eighth and tossed the final 1.2 innings. He allowed a one-out hit in the bottom of the ninth (the only one he allowed on the week), then got a double play ball to end the contest.
Over his 6.2 innings pitched for the week, Cederoth had a 0.00 earned run average with six strikeouts and opponents hit just .053 against him. The saves were his 18th and 19th of the season as he is within one of the SDSU single-season record of 20 set by Addison Reed during the 2009 campaign.
San Diego State will close out its regular season with a three-game series at Fresno State that gets underway on Thursday, May 15, at 6:30 p.m. at FSU's Beiden Field. The Aztecs will then move on to the Mountain West Tournament hosted by UNLV May 21-25.
