Thirty-Three Aztecs Named MW Scholar-Athletes

July 8, 2016

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State had 33 student-athletes earn Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2015-16 academic year, the conference announced Friday afternoon.

For the second straight year, the track and field team had 10 honorees and had an additional three land on the scholar-athlete list from the cross country squad. Softball had the second-highest total with five honorees and was followed by baseball (3), women’s tennis (3), women’s basketball (2), football (2), swimming and diving (2), women’s golf (1), women’s soccer (1), and men’s tennis (1).

The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at SDSU, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a Mountain West-sponsored sport.

This announcement comes two days after it was announced that a school-record 72 Aztecs were named to the Mountain West All-Academic Team for the Spring 2016 semester.
