San Diego State-Utah State Postgame Quotes
LOGAN, Utah - Postgame quotes from the San Diego State at Utah State men's basketball game on Saturday night.
San Diego State Head Coach Steve Fisher...
"This is what you're going to have when you get on the road. This is college basketball anywhere. This is my first trip here and it's an incredible atmosphere. They have fans a lot like ours, who are so supportive of their team. They made up for all of the shots that they didn't make against Vegas against us. They made some hard shots and they made some open shots, but they made a lot of hard shots."
Utah State Head Coach Stew Morrill...
"San Diego State obviously showed why they're seventh in the country and only have one loss. They found a way to win that game when we had ourselves in a really good position to win it. We were lucky to get overtime, then (Xavier) Thames took over the game. Our guys played really, really hard. They made a lot of big shots and gave themselves a chance. We just have to find a way down the stretch. We've had three league games like this where we've had a chance down the stretch and we just don't make enough plays. That's disappointing. We had some guys play really well and it was a good basketball game, just a tough loss."
Freshman Forward Jalen Moore...
"After our performance at UNLV, I think we came out strong. We made some shots that we didn't make there. We out-rebounded them and had our chance to win, especially close at the end. Spencer (Butterfield) made the huge shot to send it into overtime and we just couldn't capitalize on it. I think after the way we played at UNLV, this was a big improvement with what we did out there, challenging the seventh-best team in the nation. We have a quick turnaround on Tuesday with New Mexico. They're kind of like the same team with two big guys in the middle. They have athletic wings and everything. We can't think about the loss too much, we just have to come out on Tuesday ready to play."
Senior Guard/Forward Spencer Butterfield...
"On that last shot of regulation, Preston (Medlin) was covered, they switched the man to him. I was able to come over and get a decent look at it.
"TeNale (Roland) was playing a great game and helped us out a lot at the end. It hurt not to have him or Jarred Shaw in overtime, that would have helped a lot.
"You just have to pull together. You have two choices in these instances. You can lay down and give up or you can keep fighting. The good thing about this team is that we keep fighting. We're going to keep fighting the rest of the season. We'll bounce back. We've got another tough game on Tuesday. We need to come in and bounce back and have this energy again on Tuesday. This shows that we can compete with anyone in this league. We've had a couple games that haven't gone our way. They're going to start going our way if we just keep at it and keep working hard."
