SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Jalen McDaniels scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead San Diego State to a 71-59 win over San Jose State on Saturday night.

McDaniels hit all 10 of his free throw attempts and was 3 for 7 from the field. Max Montana added 15 points, all from 3-point range, Matt Mitchell had 12 points and Devin Watson 10 for San Diego State (17-10, 9-7 Mountain West Conference).

Midway through the second half, San Jose State (3-24, 0-16) pulled to within a bucket, 45-43, on a pair of free throws from Keith Fisher III but it was as close as the Spartans got.

The Aztecs, who never trailed, quickly retook control with an 11-2 run capped with one of Montana's 3-pointers and later stretched the advantage to double figures for good with a dunk from McDaniels to make it 62-52 with four minutes remaining. It was San Diego State's fourth-straight win.

Fisher led the Spartans with 21 points and Jaycee Hillsman had 10 points with seven rebounds and five assists.

Nolan Narain made his first career start and in 18 minutes, had eight points and four rebounds. He has scored in four straight games, which is one shy of his career-long streak.

Max Montana tied his career high with five three-pointers, all of which came in the second half. He has made five treys in a game three times this season and six times overall.

The Aztecs return home on Tuesday night to play host to Boise State. Game time is set for 8 p.m. PT and the contest will be shown live on CBS Sports Network.
