Jan. 6, 2014
SAN DIEGO - After earning one of the biggest regular-season victories in program history, the San Diego State men's basketball team moved up in both major polls on Monday. The Aztecs are now 13th in the AP Top 25 and 15th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
It marks the highest ranking San Diego State has enjoyed in either poll this season, and the Aztecs' highest ranking in the AP poll since being ranked 13th on Feb. 6, 2012.
SDSU won its Mountain West opener for the seventh-consecutive season with a road victory over Colorado State, 71-61, on Jan. 1, and followed it up with a non-conference win at No. 16/17 Kansas, 61-57, on Sunday afternoon. In the process, San Diego State snapped Kansas' streak of 68-straight home victories against non-conference opponents, and was named Team of the Week by NBCSports.com.
In addition, the Aztecs' three victories this season over top-25 teams away from home are tied for the most by any Division I team in a season on or before Jan. 5 since 1996-97, and they join North Carolina as the only teams in the nation to defeat three AP top-25 opponents this season.
Meanwhile, San Diego State's road game at Utah State on Jan. 25 will be televised nationally on ESPNU, which can be found on Cox Cable channel 321, Time Warner channel 399, DirecTV channel 208, AT&T U-verse channel 605 and Dish Network channel 141. Tipoff for the Aztecs' first-ever meeting with Utah State as part of the MW is set for 9:05 p.m. MT.
