Franklin, Tapley Power No. 18 Aztecs Past Rams, 79-69
Jamaal Franklin scored 19 points and Chase Tapley tallied 17 to lead No. 18 and top-seeded San Diego State to a 79-69 victory against fourth-seeded Colorado State in the Mountain West Conference tournament semifinals on Friday night.

No. 16/15 San Diego State (13-2; 1-0 Mountain West) returns home on Saturday to play host to Colorado State (13-2; 0-0 MW) in the Aztecs' home conference opener.

Game time is set for 5 p.m. PT and the contest will be televised by NBC Sports Network with radio coverage on AM 600 KOGO and 101 KGB.

The Aztecs are looking for its third-straight 2-0 Mountain West start after earning a 65-62 victory at Fresno State on Wednesday. The win was SDSU's 32nd in a row vs. schools from California, which ties the longest active streak vs. any single state (Syracuse vs. New York; UConn vs. Connecticut), and its MW-best sixth-consecutive league-opening win.

Preseason conference player of the year Jamaal Franklin went off for a game-high 20 points, career-high 18 rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots, while freshman Winston Shepard contributed a career-high seven rebounds and seven assists starting in place of the injured Xavier Thames (back). With his effort, Franklin became the only player in America this season with his stat line, just the third in the last 10 seasons and the first since 2000 to do it for a nationally ranked team.

Franklin, who was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 on Thursday, comes into the Colorado State game a season removed from averaging 24.7 points and 10.7 rebounds vs. CSU. In the two regular-season games, Franklin produced a pair of double-doubles, including a 31-point, 16-rebound performance inside Viejas Arena.

The Rams, meanwhile, head to southern California receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches' Top-25 poll. CSU comes into its Mountain West opener having not played since an 85-64 home win over St. Bonaventure on Jan. 5, its seventh straight win. With Colorado State in town, the top-three rebounders in the league will be on display in Franklin (10.5), Pierce Hornung (10.2) and Colton Iverson (8.9), who rank first, second and third, respectively.
