Jamaal Franklin made an off-balance 3-pointer at the buzzer to give top-seeded and No. 18 San Diego State a 65-62 win over No. 8 seed Boise State in the Mountain West Conference tournament opener Thursday.

No. rv/T-25 San Diego State (16-5; 4-3 Mountain West) concludes the first half of Mountain West play on Wednesday night at Viejas Arena against Boise State (15-6; 3-4 MW). Game time is set for 8 p.m. PT and the contest will be televised by Time Warner Cable SportsNet, with radio coverage on AM 600 KOGO and 101 KGB.

On Saturday, the Aztecs had their brief two-game winning streak snapped in a 70-67 loss at Air Force. San Diego State played without junior point guard Xavier Thames (lower back strain) for third time in seven conference games while senior guard Chase Tapley put a yeoman's effort (six assists, no turnovers) as he played 35 minutes with a moderate right wrist sprain that held him to two points, his lowest scoring output in his last 58 games (since his sophomore season).

Despite limited personnel and 2-19 three-point shooting, the Aztecs used a 37-23 rebound advantage and converted 15 of 18 free-throw attempts to remain within striking distance. SDSU had two three-point attempts in the closing seconds but was unable to convert the tying shot. AFA connected on 12 three-pointers and shot 49 percent from the field in the contest.

All-American candidate Jamaal Franklin produced his 21st career double-double with game-highs in points (25), rebounds (10) and assists (6). Senior guard James Rahon added 14 points, while sophomore JJ O'Brien produced his career-high third consecutive double-digit scoring game (10 points). Senior forward Deshawn Stephens had 10 points and eight rebounds.

SDSU remains in the coaches' poll at No. 25 this week. It marks the 25th straight in-season week the Aztecs have appeared in at least one of the two major polls.

San Diego State returns home for a pair of games this week, facing Boise State on Wednesday and Fresno State on Saturday. The Aztecs are 58-5 (92.1 percent) at Viejas Arena in its last 63 home games since March 4, 2009. That is the eighth-highest home winning percentage in the nation during the time frame and the highest west of the central time zone. The Aztecs are 53-1 during that span in home game against teams not nationally ranked in either of the polls at game time.
