Feb. 6, 2012
SAN DIEGO -
The San Diego State men's basketball team (20-3, 6-1 Mountain West) is ranked 13th in the Associated Press Top 25 and No. 14 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll, which were released on Monday. It marks the seventh straight week the Aztecs have appeared in the AP Top 25 and the sixth straight appearance in the coaches' poll.
SDSU was ranked 17th by both the AP and the ESPN/USA Today poll last week. Last Wednesday, the Aztecs received a 16-point, eight-rebound performance from MW Player of the Week Jamaal Franklin to lift SDSU to a 58-56 win against Boise State. On Saturday, Franklin notched 24 points and 11 rebounds to give San Diego State an 83-73 win vs. TCU. With the victory, the Aztecs recorded their seventh straight 20-win season.
San Diego State is one of 19 programs in the country to have been ranked in each of the last seven AP top-25 polls. That streak dates back to the final poll of last year, released on Dec. 26, 2011. Overall, the Aztecs have been ranked in 26 of the last 33 AP polls dating back to last season.
The Aztecs are back in action Saturday when they travel to Las Vegas to play No.14/16 UNLV. The teams are meeting for the second time this season, with SDSU recording a 69-67 victory at Viejas Arena on Jan. 14. Game time is set for 1 p.m. PT on NBC Sports Network. The Aztecs have won three straight and five of the last six contests at Thomas & Mack Center.
