No. 13 #AztecMBB to Play Host to SJSU Tuesday Night
Feb. 24, 2014
SAN DIEGO -
Following just its third loss of the season, No. 13/13 San Diego State (23-3 overall; 12-2 MW) looks to extend a 39-game win streak against teams from the state of California and a 12-game overall homecourt win streak when San José State (7-19 overall; 1-13 MW) visits Viejas Arena on Tuesday night.
Game time is set for 8 p.m. PT, with the contest shown nationally on CBS Sports Network. The MW tilt can also be heard in southern California on The Mighty 1090 and 105.7 The Walrus. Tuesday will mark the 37th consecutive regular-season sellout at Viejas Arena.
The Aztecs, which have won their last seven games immediately following a loss, welcome the Spartans to Montezuma Mesa for the first time since Feb. 27, 1999. On game day, it will have been 5,477 days since the Spartans and Aztecs last met in San Diego. The Aztecs are going for a season sweep of SJSU, something they have not done since 1978, when the teams were members of the PCAA.
On Saturday night, San Diego State experienced just its third loss of the 2013-14 campaign and fell into a first-place tie in the league race with New Mexico, following a 58-44 setback at The Pit. The Aztecs suffered from season lows in points (44), field-goal percentage (32.3 percent), free-throws (0) and free-throws attempted (3).
The loss left San Diego State in a tie atop the Mountain West standings. The Aztecs and Lobos have identical 12-2 records with four conference games remaining. San Diego State ends the season with San José State, at Fresno State, at UNLV and New Mexico. New Mexico ends the campaign with Utah State, at Nevada, Air Force and at SDSU.
Following Tuesday night's game, the Aztecs' three remaining regular-season games come against teams with a combined record of 52-29. San Diego State will continue its competition against Golden State teams when the Aztecs travel to Fresno to face Fresno State on Saturday night.
