LaBradford Franklin to Transfer from San Diego State
June 11, 2013
SAN DIEGO - LaBradford Franklin, a junior point guard who recently completed his third season with the San Diego State basketball program, has elected to transfer, Aztec head coach Steve Fisher announced today.
Franklin is classified as a junior athletically and currently has two years of eligibility remaining.
"LaBradford has chosen to transfer after spending three years as an Aztec," Fisher said. "We value his contribution to the program. We will miss him and wish him good luck."
This past season, Franklin appeared in three games, scoring nine points and adding two rebounds, two assists and two steals. His last appearance in a game came on Dec. 6 against UC Santa Barbara. San Diego State successfully filed a waiver on Franklin's behalf to gain an additional season of competition for the guard.
"I really enjoyed my time at San Diego State," Franklin said. "I feel like I have grown in my years here and I have learned a lot. My experiences will weigh heavily on my future. I am disappointed I did not have the career at San Diego State I envisioned. Moving on, I can take what I have learned and feel like it will make me stronger.
"I appreciate the opportunity the coaching staff and my teammates have given me. I wish the program well and will continue to follow San Diego State Basketball."
Franklin appeared in 17 games and made one start during San Diego State's 2010-11 season in which the Aztecs won the Mountain West regular-season championship, conference tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. He averaged 2.1 points, 0.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists in just less than eight minutes of playing time per game.
In 2011-12, Franklin appeared in 33 games, and averaged 2.8 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest on an Aztec squad that tied for the regular-season Mountain West title and advanced to the NCAA tournament.
In his three seasons on The Mesa, the Temecula, Calif., native, played in 53 games and scored 139 career points and dished out 79 assists. He recorded three double-digit scoring games, all of which came during the 2011-12 campaign. He tallied a career-high 13 points in an Aztec victory over UC Davis on Nov. 13, 2011.
Franklin did not indicate where he would transfer.
