Sept. 26, 2012

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State basketball fans are invited to join the men's and women's programs on Friday, Oct. 12, for Madness on the Mesa as both teams open practice for the 2012-13 campaign. The free event is set for Viejas Arena and the festivities will commence at 9 p.m. PT.

The gates at Viejas Arena will open at 9 p.m., and SDSU students will be allowed to sign-up for competitions that will take place throughout the night. During this time, DJ Fingaz, Xzibit's official DJ, will spin while highlights are shown on the video board.

The SDSU women's basketball team will make its first public appearance as it prepares to capture its second straight Mountain West championship. Head coach Beth Burns will introduce her team, which is ranked No. 25 by Lindy's Sports, and talk as they look to secure their second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.

Soon thereafter, the back-to-back MW regular-season champion SDSU men's hoops team will come out of the locker room and perform. The Aztecs are ranked No. 15 by Lindy's and Athlon Sports entering the campaign and are looking for their fourth straight NCAA berth.

The men's and women's teams will then combine and compete in a three-point contest. Once a side has been crowned in the competition, all eyes will turn to the video board as the Aztecs unveil their new men's basketball music video.

The event will conclude with a men's hoops slam-dunk contest that will feature special guest judges.

Men's basketball season tickets are sold out, but women's hoops season tickets are available starting at $60. They can be purchased online at GoAztecs.com or by calling the Aztec Ticket Office at 619-283-7378.

The event is being produced in partnership with Aztec Nights (aztecnights.com).
