SDSU Men's Hoops to Play in Diamond Head Classic
Nov. 21, 2011
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's basketball team is one of eight teams set to participate in the 2012 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. The fourth annual holiday tournament will be held in late December, around the Christmas holiday, at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Also competing in the 2012 tournament are Arizona, Miami (Fla.), Ole Miss, San Francisco, Texas Tech, host Hawaii and one team to later be named. There will be 12 games played over the three days and each team will play in one game per day in a bracket-tournament format. A championship match will then be played between the final two teams that remain undefeated throughout the bracket.
A year ago, Arizona reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Championship and San Diego State advanced to the Sweet 16. Miami (Fla.) and Ole Miss earned NIT berths, while Hawaii and San Francisco competed in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
