Entering his senior season in eligibility and his first as an active Aztec... Spent last season practicing with the team and spent 2000 as a full-time student at City College of San Francisco, but did not play football... Will open fall camp as the starter in SDSU's slot receiver position... Began his college career at California.

At Cal: Saw action as a true freshman, catching three passes for 61 yards... Hauled in 15 passes in eight games as a sophomore, finishing second on the team in catches (15) and receiving yards (211).

High School: Caught 62 passes as a senior at Woodside High School... Named the Bay Area player of the year by the Palo Club... Earned all-conference, all-county, all-metro and all-state honors... An all-conference selection as well as a PrepStar Western region team pick... Holds the school record for receiving yards in a season... Was also an accomplished basketball player, earning four varsity letters... Earned two letters in track and field.

Personal: Born Dec. 18, 1979, in Palo Alto... Son of Victoria Smith... Majoring in criminal justice... Took official visits to Cal, Washington, Arizona and USC out of high school.
