Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl | Dec. 23, 2017
Amon G. Carter Stadium | Fort Worth, Texas

SDSU Head Coach Rocky Long

Opening Statement:
“I thought it was an exciting football game. I think the fans enjoyed it, I thought the two teams on offense were pretty good. I thought our offense played well and obviously Rashaad (Penny) and Juwan (Washington) had a great night. I don’t know what they feel like about their defense but I think our defense played really, really poorly. And that’s coaching so that’s my fault. We had some chances to put the game away just like they did and we didn’t win it. So there are no excuses for not winning but obviously, we’re disappointed.”

Refection on a successful season:
“It was a good year. I never thought I’d be disappointed with a 10 wins. But whenever you end the season with a loss, I’m just disappointed about everything. I think you all saw today, we’ve been best with what I think is the best running back in the country. Even though he might not get the credit he deserves, we were blessed as a program to have the best running back in the country, and he showed it again today. When you have one of those guys, he makes it easier to win. We would have won tonight if we had played better defense.”

SDSU senior running back Rashaad Penny

On personal performance:
“It wasn’t a good day. We lost. It’s frustrating. I’m disappointed but just move on. I know these guys have a great future ahead of them. Just have to put this loss behind them and comeback hard in the offseason. It’s not about me anymore, now it’s about next year’s team. The game is over. It’s in the past.”

On this being his final game at SDSU:
“I thought I went out the right way. But I’m so disappointed and frustrated that we didn’t get the win.”

On suffering a loss despite a standout performance: “It doesn’t mean anything. You could have 400 rushing yards and lose, that means nothing at the end of the day. All I’ll try to do is try to help this team win and put my team in the best situations. That’s all I play the game of football for, and I love it that way. I have a great supporting cast that believes in me. I just play to win, and obviously we didn’t do that tonight. It’s disappointing.”

SDSU sophomore linebacker Kyahva Tezino

On the defense’s performance:
“We didn’t come out physical enough. We’re just all disappointed cause of guys like Rashaad Penny, we all wanted to send him out the right way. It hurts me and it hurts everyone else. We’re just going to take this feeling and use it for next year.”

SDSU sophomore running back Juwan Washington

On playing near his hometown of Kennedale, Texas:
“It was fun. It was nice to have a big supporting cast. Just a little disappointed that we didn’t come out with the win, and I know they’re going to try to cheer me up. I just know we’re all disappointed. I’m going to go home and work as hard as I can, comeback in the offseason and get ready for next year.”

Army Head Coach Jeff Monken:

"I am going to allow our senior class and captains to accept the trophy on behalf of Army West Point. This was an amazing game. I am so proud for your players and their effort. Thank you to the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, the city of Fort Worth and the state of Texas for all the hospitality. I hope you will invite us back. Beat Navy."

Army West Point senior quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw:

"It is so good to go to back-to-back bowls and to beat Navy this year. We knew we had to be determined when we started practice two years ago, and the determination paid off for us. We had lost to Navy the year before, and we were ready to turn things around (prior to 2016). Everyone worked hard and tried to help the effort. I also want to thank my Mom for her support, and I told her I loved her and thanked her after the game. This was a great way for the seniors to finish our careers."
