Three Former Aztecs Named to MWC 10th Anniversary Football Team

July 22, 2008

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Three former San Diego State players were named to the Mountain West Conference Football 10th Anniversary Team, as selected by a combined panel of media, institutional and conference personnel and online fan poll. In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been a first team all-Mountain West selection at least once in their careers.

The three Aztecs who were selected to the 25-man team include defensive lineman Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (1999), linebacker Kirk Morrison (2001-04) and defensive back Will Demps (1999-2001).

Gbaja-Biamila was a two-time all-WAC selection before earning third-team all-MWC honors as a senior in 1999. Gbaja-Biamila's 67.0 career tackles for a loss and 33.0 sacks are the most in school history, while his 242 tackles rank second on SDSU's all-time list among lineman. Gbaja-Biamila has played for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League since 2000.

A two-time All-American, Morrison was the MWC Defensive Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004 and was a three-time all-MWC selection. Morrison, a Butkus Award semifinalist in 2004, finished second all-time in SDSU history with 396 tackles. Morrison currently plays for the Oakland Raiders of the NFL, where he has led the team in tackles each of the past two seasons.

Demps, a three-year letterwinner at SDSU from 1999-2001, was a two-time all-MWC selection, earning first-team honors in 2000. Demps is tied for second in SDSU history with two career interceptions returned for touchdowns, while his 92 tackles in 2001 led the Aztecs. Demps has also enjoyed a successful NFL career, seeing playing time with Baltimore (2002-05), New York Giants (2006) and Houston (2007-present).

Anniversary teams will be chosen for each of the 19 conference-sponsored sports during the 2008-09 seasons in celebration of the Mountain West's 10th anniversary.

The MountainWest Sports Network - Mtn. will broadcast a series of special presentations highlighting the 10th anniversary of the Mountain West Conference.
