Aug. 31, 2017
SAN DIEGO - With San Diego State's 2017 football opener against UC Davis rapidly approaching, there are a number of activities available to fans come game day on Saturday, Sept. 2.
A large crowd is anticipated and fans are encouraged to arrive early, as parking is expected to reach capacity. The parking lot will open at 12:30 p.m. At that point, all three points of entry into the parking lot will be open: the main gate, the eastbound Friars Road entrance and the west-side entrance of San Diego Stadium. Stadium gates will open at 3:30 p.m.
Fans arriving early can experience Aztec Village, which will be open from 2:30-5 p.m. in Lots C1/D1 of the San Diego Stadium (formerly Qualcomm Stadium) parking lot. Entrance to the village is free to the public and there will be food and beverage options for purchase, a Kids Zone with carnival rides, inflatable games, and face painters, men's and women's soccer players signing autographs, a DJ, and a pregame football radio show broadcast. Judson Richards will host the radio show with analyst J.R. Tolver. The American Red Cross will also be on site collecting cash donations for those in Houston affected by Hurricane Harvey.
In addition to Aztec Village, there will be an SDSU Student Tailgate open from 2:30-5 p.m. near Lot J2 behind the trolley stop. This will be open to current SDSU students and sponsored by MTS. The tailgate will have free pizza from Woodstock's Pizza, free t-shirts, a photo booth, a DJ, games and other giveaways available.
During these events, the football team will take part in its customary Warrior Walk at approximately 3:15 p.m. between Lots E and F.
The Aggies-Aztecs contest has also been designated as SDSU Faculty/Staff Day with discounted tickets for faculty and staff members. All faculty and staff were emailed with a promo code for discounted tickets. For more information, contact the Aztec Ticket Office at (619) 283-7378.
Prior to kickoff, SDSU will welcome back Lance Louis, who is this season's first Honor Warrior. Louis, a tight end turned offensive lineman, played for the Aztecs from 2004-08. He was the recipient of the SDSU's Academic Initiative Award and was the team's Most Improved Offensive Player in 2008 after his transition to right guard. He was selected in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, playing in 50 career games for the Bears and the Indianapolis Colts.
Members of the U.S. Army will be recognized for their service during the game, which will air exclusively on Facebook Live.
Following the contest, the largest fireworks display in San Diego, the KGB SkyShow, will take place. This marks the 14th consecutive season in which the KGB SkyShow has been presented in conjunction with an Aztec football game.
A new facet of football games for the next two seasons is Blockparty, which will have cabanas set up in the end zone at the southwest corner of the stadium. These premium hospitality areas feature a branded cabana with lounge furniture, HD televisions, and other high-end amenities while hosting fans near the action at field level.
Fans interested in experiencing a game from the cabanas for the 2017 season can email the Aztec Club at firstname.lastname@example.org, visit blockpartypresents.com or call (619) 594-6444 for more information.
