Aztec Football Adds Army and Navy to Future Schedules
Sept. 22, 2009
SAN DIEGO -
San Diego State announced today that Army and Navy, two of the 30 winningest programs in the history of collegiate football, have been added to the future schedule. The Aztecs will face the Black Knights in West Point, N.Y., in 2011 and the teams will play at Qualcomm Stadium in 2012, while the Midshipmen join the schedule in 2014 with a game in Annapolis, Md., followed by a return game in San Diego in 2015.
With the addition of Army, San Diego State's 2012 football schedule is now complete.
The Aztecs have never faced Army on the football field. The Black Knights entered the season as the NCAA's 26th all-time winningest program. San Diego State will play at Army on Sept. 10, 2011, one day prior to the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11. The teams will meet at Michie Satdium, which Sports Illustrated listed as the third top venue of the 20th century, trailing only Yankee Stadium and Augusta National and ahead of other notable venues such as Cameron Indoor Stadium, Wrigley Field, Roland Garros and Lambeau Field.
The next season, Army will travel to San Diego for a contest against the Aztecs at Qualcomm Stadium on Sept. 8, 2012.
San Diego State leads the series with Navy, 2-0, having won a pair of home games against the Midshipmen. Both games were season-openers for the Aztecs, who won, 56-14, in 1994 and, 45-31, in 1997. The teams will renew their rivalry on Nov. 15, 2014, in Annapolis and will play again on Nov. 7, 2015, in San Diego. Navy entered the 2009 season as the 30th winningest college football program of all time, and has posted six consecutive eight-win campaigns.
