Dec. 17, 2013
The San Diego State football team won the 2013 Strikes for Spuds Charity Bowling Event over Buffalo on Tuesday to kick off the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl festivities at the Pinz at Wahooz Family Fun Zone in Meridian, Idaho.
The Aztecs, who were bowling for the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank and the Idaho Food Bank of Boise, defeated the Bulls in a spirited competition by a combined 241-216 score.
First, the SDSU offensive starters outscored the UB defensive starters, 129-107, anchored by head coach Rocky Long. Then the San Diego State defensive starters rallied late to down the Buffalo offensive starters, 112-109, as assistant coach Brian Sipe's final frame sealed it for the Aztecs.
Senior Rene Siluano (Oceanside, Calif.) was the only player to throw a strike for SDSU and was one of 24 representatives (11 offensive starters, 11 defensive starters, two coaches) who bowled for San Diego State.
The entire team also played pool, arcade games and laser tag, among other festivities.
The Aztecs are scheduled to resume practice tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at Bronco Stadium. Later on in the day, SDSU players will head to the Boise Fast Lane Indoor Kart Racing for some go kart racing.
San Diego State (7-5, 6-2 Mountain West) and Buffalo (8-4, 6-2 Mid-American Conference) will meet Saturday in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl at 3:30 p.m. MT on ESPN.
