Aztec Football Visits Boise Children's Hospital

Dec. 20, 2013

Members of the San Diego State football team visited the St. Luke's Boise Medical Center on Friday morning.

The five Aztecs - seniors Jake Bernards, Wes Feer and Gabe Lemon, and juniors Jake Fely and Sam Meredith - visited with sick patients in the children's ward. The five players brought gift bags full of SDSU gear, played games with the patients and took pictures.

"Sometimes you take life for granted," Fely said. "It's amazing to see these kids still have smiles on their faces. It's just a great feeling to give back to the kids. To be here with the rest of the football players is also awesome. It's a wonderful feeling."

"It lets you take a step back and know that there is more to life than just football," Bernards said. "It's the holiday season and time for giving. I'm glad that we were able to come here and give a little extra life in the kid's lives. I had a blast and I know everyone else here at a blast. It's a really good feeling knowing that you can give a little extra joy to someone."

Earlier in the day, some of the San Diego State players and staff attended an FCA breakfast.

The Aztecs practiced later in the day before head coach Rocky Long and senior captains Nat Berhe, Colin Lockett and Bryce Quigley spoke with the media at the bowl press conference.

Ending the night (5-8 p.m. MT) will be the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Mash, presented by Idahoan. The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Mash is a free event for the fans and community. The event will include both marching bands, food, Budweiser and Coca-Cola products. A portion of the beer sales will go to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho.

San Diego State (7-5, 6-2 Mountain West) and Buffalo (8-4, 6-2 Mid-American Conference) will meet Saturday in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl at 3:30 p.m. MT on ESPN.
