Men's Golf Places 12th at The Prestige at PGA WEST

LA QUINTA, Calif. - The San Diego State men's golf team moved up two spots to finish in 12th place on Wednesday during the final round of The Prestige at PGA WEST in La Quinta, Calif. The Aztecs completed their initial tournament of the spring schedule with a collective 39-over 891 on the par-71, 7,046-yard Greg Norman Resort Course.
SDSU's top four golfers finished within eight strokes of one another, led by Riccardo Michelini (Carpi, Italy), who wound up in a three-way tie for 33rd at 7-over 220 after firing an even-par 71 over the final 18 holes. The Aztec freshman climbed 16 places from Tuesday, offsetting three bogeys with a trio of birdies to equal his lowest score of the season.
In addition, Tom Berry (New, Haw, Surrey, England) jumped one spot during the final round to finish one shot in back of Michelini after recording an 8-over 221 for the tournament. The SDSU senior fired a 3-over 74 on Wednesday to tie for 37th. Meanwhile, Xander Schauffele (San Diego, Calif.) vaulted four places from 49th into a tie for 45th after carding a three-round total of 10-over 223. The Aztec sophomore recorded a 74 over the final 18 holes, highlighted by three birdies, to finish five strokes ahead of junior Austin Kaiser (Atascadero, Calif.), who ended the day in a tie for 65th at 15-over 228.
Rounding out the SDSU contingent was senior Cameron Tennant (Woodland Hills, Calif.), who logged his best score of the tournament on Wednesday with a 4-over 76 to tie for 74th at 232.
The Aztecs will return to the course next week when they compete in the North Ranch Intercollegiate, Feb. 25-26, in Woodland Hills, Calif.
