Aztec Men's Golf in 4th after Two Rounds of NIT

The San Diego State men's golf team shot a 4-under 284 on Saturday in the second round of the National Invitational Tournament at the par 72, 7,094-yard OMNI Tucson National Golf Club. The Aztecs, who also carded a 284 in the first round yesterday, are alone in fourth after 36 holes.
Xander Schauffele moved into the top five after firing a 3-under 69. Schauffele's second round was almost flawless as he eagled the par 5 10th hole and added two birdies. His only blemish was a bogey on the 17th hole. Through two rounds, Schauffele is tied with two others for fourth at 139 (-5).
Two other SDSU players are in the top 25, led by Ricky DeSantis. DeSantis rebounded from his 2-over 74 in the first round yesterday to shoot a 5-under 69 on Saturday. He had six birdies on the day and three bogeys. DeSantis is tied for 19th at 1-under (143) through two rounds.
Austin Kaiser, who yesterday had a 2-over 74, fired a 2-under 70 today and is at even par through 36 holes and tied for 25th. He had three birdies and just one bogey.
Nahum Mendoza III and Riccardo Michelini, meanwhile, are tied for 44th at 3-over (147) entering Sunday. Mendoza III had a 6-over 78 after shooting a 3-under 69 on Friday. Michelini shot a 4-over 76, a day after going 1-under (71).
San Diego State, which is ranked 38th, is in fourth at 568 (-8), two shots ahead of second-ranked Oklahoma State (6-under 570). No. 3 California (27-under, 549) leads after two rounds, followed by No. 32 SMU (11-under, 565) and No. 19 New Mexico (9-under, 567).
The final round of the National Invitational Tournament wraps up Sunday with the Aztecs teeing off with Texas A&M and UNLV starting at 8:45 a.m. MT.
