COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State's Xander Schauffele (San Diego, Calif.) has been named Mountain West Men's Co-Golfer of the Week for tournaments played March 12-19, the league office announced Wednesday. With his honor, the Aztec junior garnered the second MW weekly accolade of his career and SDSU's first of the season.
At the National Invitational Tournament last weekend, Schauffele posted his fifth top-10 finish of the year after tying for sixth out of 81 players with a combined 5-under 211 on the par-72, 7,094-yard Catalina Course at the OMNI National Resort in Tucson, Ariz. During Saturday's second round, the Scripps Ranch High alumnus carded his sixth round in the 60s this season with a 3-under 69, which featured an eagle on the par-5, 511-yard 10th hole.
As a team, the Scarlet and Black tied for fourth in the 14-team field with a collective 13-under par 851.
With his performance, Schauffele now sports a team-leading 71.67 stroke average, which ranks second among Mountain West golfers and also occupies the 33rd position nationally according to the latest Golfstat individual ratings.
Schauffele and the Aztecs return to the course for the U.S. Intercollegiate, March 28-30, at Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
