Men's Soccer Announces Spring Schedule Change
Feb. 16, 2017
SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State men's soccer team has moved its spring home game against Point Loma to Friday, March 3, at 7 p.m. PT atop SDSU Sports Deck. The Aztecs-Sea Lions contest was originally scheduled for Friday, Feb. 17.
SDSU will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 25, when it heads north to face the LA Galaxy II in Carson, Calif. "Los Dos" compiled a 12-11-7 overall record last season before losing to the Swope Park (Mo.) Rangers in the Western Conference quarterfinals of the United Soccer League. Former Aztec star Daniel Steres served as captain of the 2015 Galaxy II squad that advanced to the USL finals before signing with the parent club last season.
In addition to the Point Loma game, SDSU's spring schedule features a day/night doubleheader at Montezuma Road vs. Cal State San Marcos and Cal State Northridge on Saturday, March 11, followed by another home clash with the Tijuana Xolos reserves on Wednesday, March 22. Three days later, the Scarlet and Black will make the short trek west down Interstate 8 to battle the University of San Diego in its spring finale on Saturday, March 25.
San Diego State enjoyed one of its most memorable campaigns last fall, posting a 9-4-6 overall record capped by its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2006. The Aztecs, who ended the regular season ranked 19th by the NSCAA and 15th by Soccer America, logged a 3-2-2 record against teams ranked in either of the aforementioned Top-25 polls during the year, including a mammoth 1-0 triumph over No. 1 Akron at home on Sept. 2.
