SDSU Men's Tennis Opens Season with Strong First Day at Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State opened the 2007 spring tennis season with a strong performance in doubles at the Aztec Invitational on Friday. The round-robin format, in which teams scores are not kept, features San Diego State, Arizona State and Santa Clara. Individual results are recorded and count toward national and regional rankings.
San Diego State's Markus Dickhardt notched a pair of victories in doubles play, combining with Achim Ceban and Anthony Gomez. Ceban also joined forces with Billy Timu for SDSU's other doubles triumph. Among the highlights in singles competition were wins recorded by junior Robert Sabo and freshman Michael Beron.
"I was definitely more pleased with the afternoon doubles play," SDSU head coach Gene Carswell said. "We had more inspired play in the afternoon."
In all, SDSU posted a 3-2 record in doubles and a 2-3 mark in singles play.
The round-robin event continues tomorrow with the conclusion of the San Diego State and Santa Clara match set for 10 a.m. Arizona State and Santa Clara will play at 2 p.m. All matches are played at the Aztec Tennis Center on the San Diego State campus.
