SDSU Men's Tennis Picks Up Win Against Utah

WACO, Texas - San Diego State men's tennis left Texas with a win on Sunday morning. The Aztecs were able to take the decision against the Utah Utes, 5-1, in Waco, Texas at the Baylor Tennis Center.
SDSU was able to take the consolation match against Utah starting in doubles action, with Juan Gomez and Tim Schulz van Endert taking the first match in second doubles against Wes Hancock and Timmy Allin, 8-1. In third doubles, Bartosz Golas and Andre Feliz of San Diego State defeated Stephen Jacobs and Jason Smits, 8-1. The match between Aztecs Achim Ceban and Giovanni Vaglietti and Utes Phillip Eilers and John Taylor was left unfinished, 7-8, in first doubles.
Singles action got underway with Schulz van Endert downing Smits, 6-2, 6-2, in fifth singles. In second singles, Ceban dropped a decision against Hancock, 6-4, 6-4.
Gomez picked up his second victory of the day by taking down Benito Suriano, 6-4, 6-1, in third singles. Freshman Vaglietti also tallied his second win of the day by defeating Othman Zerouali-Ouariti, 7-6, (7-1), 6-4, in fourth singles. Completing the win for the Aztecs was Feliz over Allin, for Feliz's second win of the day, at 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, in sixth singles. The first singles match between Golas Eilers was left unfinished at 6-2, 5-3.
With the victory San Diego State improves to 2-1 on the season. The Aztecs will travel to UCLA on Feb. 4 for a match at 1:30 p.m. PT.
