SDSU Men's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision to No. 43 Hawai'i

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team was unable to take advantage of winning doubles point as No. 43 Hawai'i defeated the 54th-ranked Aztecs, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center. SDSU fell to 1-7 on the season, while the Rainbow Warriors improved to 1-3.
The Aztecs got off to a good start by picking up wins in the first two doubles matches. Giovanni Vaglietti and Hunter Nicholas defeated Leo Rosenberg and Danilo Casanova, 9-8 (2) to get the victory at number one. Then Javier Pulgar and Juan Florez picked up an 8-6 win at number two against Daniel Llarenas and Jeremy Tweedt.
SDSU didn't have the same success in singles play, with Hawai'i claiming the first five points by winning singles matches one through five. However, the Aztecs were able to win at number six with Jose Sierra Short getting a 6-7, 6-3, 10-3 victory against Jared Spiker.
Next up for San Diego State will be a road contest against No. 60 UC Santa Barbara. Match time is set for 2 p.m. PT on Saturday at the Recreation Center Courts.
