SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team won its fourth match in its last five outings Monday afternoon as it defeated Yale, 5-2, at Aztec Tennis Center. The victory improves the Aztecs' record to 6-6, while the Bulldogs fall to 4-6 on the season.

For the fourth time in the last five matches, SDSU won the doubles point but it did not come easy as the Yale tandem of Jeff Dawson and Josh Lederman disposed of Anthony Gomez and Achim Ceban, 8-4, at No. 2 to open up play.

The San Diego State duo of Juan Gomez and Billy Timu evened the score as they emerged victorious, 8-6, at No. 3 leaving the deciding match at first doubles. For the first time since Jan. 20, 12th-ranked Markus Dickhardt and Christian Groh were paired together and they lived up to their national ranking as the pair downed Brandon Wai and Rory Green, 8-6, at the top of the order to secure the point going into singles play.

The Aztecs jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Ceban cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5 over Matt Schimmel. However, the Bulldogs cut the SDSU lead to one after Green walked away with a 7-6, 6-1 decision over Juan Gomez at No. 4 singles.

At the top of the order, No. 67 Dickhardt kept Yale at bay as he went on to win his eighth straight match, a 6-2, 6-2 performance over Wai. The senior's effort proved important as Robert Sabo fell in straight sets at No. 6 to bring the Bulldogs within one team point, 3-2.

Meanwhile at No. 3, Anthony Gomez laid any doubt to rest as he helped the Aztecs clinch the match with his 6-3, 6-4 performance over Dawson. With the outcome already decided, No. 76 Groh beat Mike Caldwell in three sets at No. 2 to provide the match its final margin.

San Diego State returns to the courts Wednesday, March 21, at it plays host to Princeton at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m. PDT.
