SAN DIEGO - The No. 37 San Diego State Men's Tennis team got off to a good start in this weekend's SDSU/USD Invite, defeating No. 72 Oklahoma State, 4-1, on Thursday afternoon at Aztec Tennis Center.

SDSU (12-4, 2-0 MW) has now won four-straight dual matches, and will play host to No. 23 Harvard in the second round of the winners' bracket on Friday at 2 p.m. PT.

The Aztecs bounced back to sweep singles play after losing the doubles point to begin the day. Junior Hunter Nicholas got SDSU its first point of the match by defeating Matt Campbell, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 slot, and freshman Marvin Tawasi followed with a victory over Denys Pume, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 4 singles. Junior Juan Florez topped Brady Bohrnstedt, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 5 singles to make it 3-1, and No. 112 Thorsten Bertsch clinched the match victory with a decision over Chris Haworth, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, in the No. 2 slot.

Oklahoma State earned the doubles point with identical 8-5 victories to start the match. Campbell and Rifat Biktyakov defeated the Aztecs' No. 1 unit of Bertsch and Nicholas, while the Cowboys' No. 43-ranked duo of Pume and Richard Del Nunzio knocked off SDSU's No. 2 team of senior Derek Siddiqui and sophomore Andranik Khachatryan.

Harvard is 10-4 this season and beat UAB, 4-1, in the opening match on Thursday at Aztec Tennis Center. The Crimson's doubles team of Denis Nguyen and Casey MacMaster is ranked No. 67.
