M. Tennis Suffers Close Loss to No. 56 Princeton

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team dropped a close match to No. 56 Princeton, 4-3, on Friday afternoon in the Mission Valley Hilton Spring Invitational at Barnes Tennis Center.
The Aztecs won the doubles point to begin the match, as the No. 1 team of senior Hunter Nicholas (Park City, Utah) and junior Andranik Khachatryan topped Alex Day and Zack McCourt, 8-1, while the No. 3 duo of junior Thorsten Bertsch (Mannheim, Germany) and freshman Milen Ianakiev (Elz, Germany) knocked off Tom Coulatti and Josh Yablon, 8-5.
Senior Juan Florez (Bogota, Colombia) put SDSU ahead, 2-0, as he began singles play with a win over Florin Radu, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 5 slot, but Khachatryan fell to Dan Davies, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 6 singles.
Freshman Hendrik Jebens (Stuttgart, Germany) dropped his No. 4 singles match to Yablon, 6-4, 7-6, and Nicholas fell short in three sets to Colautti, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5, in the No. 2 spot.
Bertsch defeated McCourt in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1, to knot the match at 3-3, but sophomore Freddy Gelbrich couldn't hold off Day in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, as the Tigers earned the dual-match victory.
The Aztecs return to action on Saturday, March 22, when they take on No. 73 Denver at San Diego Tennis and Racquet Club.
