SDSU Men's Tennis Cruises To 5-2 Win Over TCU

SAN DIEGO - The No. 58 San Diego State men's tennis team picked up its third Mountain West victory of the season with a 5-2 win against TCU on Sunday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center. SDSU improves to 13-6 overall and 3-1 in league play, while the Horned Frogs drop to 6-12 and 1-1 in MW this season.
The Aztecs picked up two wins in doubles play to clinch the point and take a 1-0 lead. At number one, Javier Pulgar and Freddy Gelbrich earned an 8-6 victory against Paul Chappell and Nick Chappell. Thorsten Bertsch and Derek Siddiqui then tallied an 8-6 victory at number two over Blake Wiggins and Will Stein.
SDSU continued its recent success in the upper half of the singles lineup as the top three players notched victories. No. 104 Javier Pulgar tallied a 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-4 win over No. 114 Nick Chappell at number one. Derek Siddiqui then defeated JT Sundling at number two by the score of 6-3, 6-0. Thorsten Bertsch was also victorious, earning a 6-2, 6-3 win against Daniel Sanchez. Juan Florez rounded out singles play by defeating Blake Wiggins, 7-6 (2), 6-4.
San Diego State will now prepare for a matchup with conference foe UNLV next Saturday, April 14. The MW tilt is scheduled for an 11 a.m. PT start at the Aztec Tennis Center.
