Aztecs' Groh and Dickhardt Advance At All-American Tennis Championships

TULSA, Okla. - San Diego State seniors Christian Groh (Crailsheim, Germany) and Markus Dickhardt (Marburg, Germany) both advanced to the second round of singles qualifying at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships. Dickhardt defeated Duke's Joey Atas in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, while Groh took care of his first round opponent, Kurt Zaske of Purdue, 6-2, 1-0. Zaske was forced to retire during the second set. The Aztec seniors are currently ranked in the preseason ITA singles rankings with Groh at No. 67 and Dickhardt at No. 99.

The two have already qualified as a doubles team for the tournament's main draw, which will begin on Thursday, Oct. 5. Last season, the duo competed in four doubles matches together and was 3-1, winning their last two. As a team, Dickhardt and Groh are ranked at No. 21 in the preseason ITA doubles rankings.

The tournament continues Tuesday with the second round of singles qualifying and the first and second rounds of doubles qualifying at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Dickhardt will face Henrique Cancado of Old Dominion, while Groh faces off with Jamie Hunt of Georgia.
