Javier Pulgar Has Successful Aztec Debut

TULSA, Okla. - On the first day of the men's tennis fall season, San Diego State's Javier Pulgar made his Aztec debut a memorable one. After receiving a bye into the second round, Pulgar defeated Jessie Kiuru of Maryland, 6-3, 6-3, at the 2010 D'Novo/ITA All-American Tennis Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Pulgar will face Ivan Castro of Pacific, tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. PT.
Four other Aztec players in the event suffered losses on Saturday. Austin Klores of Texas A&M knocked out San Diego State's Andre Feliz in the first round, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-3.
In second round action, Nebraska's Andre Stenger was a straight-set winner over SDSU's Giovanni Vaglietti, 6-3, 6-4. Krisztian Krocsko of Purdue defeated Tim Schulz van Endert of San Diego State, 6-4, 6-3. SDSU's Matt Tosches fell to Mississippi's Adrian Forberg Skogeng, 6-4, 6-2.
Pre-qualifying continues on Sunday at the first major tournament of the college tennis season. Qualifying begins on Monday and will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the tournament's main draw beginning on Thursday.
