SDSU Sophomore Daniel Jung Wins Twice at ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying Tourney

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore Daniel Jung recorded two straight-set victories to advance to the round of 64 at the 2003 Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn. on Friday.
The tournament is the first of three tournaments, which comprise the men's grand slam tournament. The pre-qualifying tournament started with 256 singles players and will be played out to the quarterfinals at which time the remaining eight players earn spots into the qualifying tournament.
Jung, seeded 33rd in the pre-qualifying portion of the tournament, recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Clarence Boyd of Georgia State. Later in the day, he posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Marten Tamia of Memphis in the round of 128.
The only other Aztec playing in the pre-qualifying singles tournament, senior Mike Coehlo, fell to Chris Westerhof of Florida State, 6-1, 6-4.
The singles tournament continues tomorrow with the round of 64 while the doubles tournament also gets on the way. The Aztec duo of Coelho and Jung will face Jean De Lange and Sanzaruz Zaman of Alabama-Birmingham. Both the singles and doubles pre-tournament fields conclude Monday, Oct. 6.
