SDSU Men's Tennis Concludes Action on First Day of Bulldog Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - The San Diego State men's tennis team concluded the first day of the 15th annual Bulldog Classic at Wathen Tennis Center on the Fresno State campus. The three-day tournament features individual competition with three singles draws and two groups of doubles.
In the A Draw, Matthew Tosches earned a 6-0, 1-6, 7-5 victory over UC Santa Barbara's Nick Calcedonia to advance to the round of 16. Tosches was unable to move on to the quarterfinals, however, falling to eighth-seeded Moritz Starke of Pacific in straight sets. In the same bracket, Andre Feliz dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Christian Hodel of Boise State and will face Oregon's Ayrton Wilbowo in the consolation draw on Saturday.
Tim Schulz van Endert won his two singles matches to reach the quarterfinals of the B Draw. The Berlin, Germany, native defeated Sky Lovill of California, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, before outlasting Cal Poly's Rob Foy, 7-5, 6-7, 7-5. Also in the B Draw, Luis Rattenhuber went the distance with No. 8 seed Blaine Shields of Boise State but eventually fell, 3-6, 7-6, 7-5. Rattenhuber will face Fresno State's Ian Chok in the back draw tomorrow.
Over in the C Draw, Jordan Colman was unsuccessful against third-seeded Gabe Kanzelmeyer of Nevada, while Michael Beron dropped a three-set decision to UC Irvine's No. 7 seed Jon Kazarian. Beron rebounded in his second match of the day, defeating Nic Amaroli of UC Davis, 3-6, 7-5, 10-8, in the consolation bracket.
In doubles action, Colman and Tosches combined to down Alex Gushner and Devin Nerenberg of UC Santa Barbara, 8-2, in the B Draw. The duos of Feliz/Rattenhuber and Beron/Schulz Van Endert were not as fortunate as they came out on the short end in their respective matches in the A Draw.
The Bulldog Classic will continue on Saturday, Oct. 4, with the first matches set to start at 8 a.m. PT.
