Jose Sierra Short Advances to Fall Invite Semifinals

San Diego State sophomore Jose Sierra Short (Guaynabo, P.R.) won two more matches Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the SDSU Fall Invite at Aztec Tennis Center.
Sierra Short defeated University of Arizona sophomore Frank Chen, 6-2, 6-2 in his third round match. In his quarterfinal clash with USC’s Joel Giger, Sierra Short won the first set 6-4, and led the second 2-1 before Giger retired.
In other singles competition, Giovanni Vaglietti (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Hunter Nicholas (Irvine, Calif.) both fell in third round action. Vaglietti was defeated by Pacific’s Artem Gramma, 7-5, 6-1. Across the bracket, Nicholas fell to USC’s Michael Grant, 6-4, 7-6 (7).
The SDSU Fall Invite is slated to wrap up tomorrow, with both doubles and singles matches taking place at Aztec Tennis Center.
