Men's Tennis Continues Play at LMU Invite

LOS ANGELES – San Diego State men’s tennis sophomore Rafael Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) continued his impressive play this weekend, posting two additional victories on Saturday to lead the Aztecs at the LMU Invitational.
Gonzalez Almazan began the round-robin tournament’s second day with a conquest of Nevada’s Augustin Delahodde in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, before combining with junior Raul de la Torre (Calexico, Calif.) for a narrow 8-7 doubles triumph over Ethan Prost and Lucas Moreno of host Loyola Marymount.
With the results, Gonzalez Almazan improves to 6-3 on the year in singles, while he and de la Torre are now 6-1 this season as a doubles tandem.
In addition, sophomore David Hough (Traralgon, Australia) a captured his second straight singles match with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Nevada’s Jonathan Aremon.
Fellow classmate Joel Popov (Tampere, Finland) also broke into the win-column on Saturday with a nearly identical 6-3, 6-1 victory over the Wolf Pack’s Peter O’Donovan.
The LMU Invitational wraps up on Sunday when the Aztecs square off against select players from Nevada in doubles, starting at noon PT, followed by a round of singles with competitors from Pepperdine.
