After Two Shutout Wins, the Aztecs Hit the Road for a Showdown with Second-Ranked UCLA
* The No. 71 San Diego State men's tennis team (2-1) travels to Los Angeles for a date with the second-ranked UCLA Bruins (4-0). The match is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

The Aztecs head to UCLA after two convincing 7-0 shutouts over UC Riverside and Northern Arizona at the La Jolla Tennis Club this past weekend. The two wins got SDSU into the win column for the first time this year after a season-opening loss at No. 8 USC (Jan. 22).

Meanwhile, the Bruins are on a roll, shutting out all four of their opponents so far by 7-0 margins. Before facing the Aztecs, UCLA faces 67th-ranked UC Santa Barbara Tuesday and No. 73 UC Irvine Wednesday.

Weekend Wrap Up
* San Diego State recorded two 7-0 victories over UC Riverside and Northern Arizona at the La Jolla Tennis Club. The win improves the Aztecs' record to 2-1 on the season.

In the morning half of the doubleheader, SDSU won the doubles point thanks to a pair of 8-3 victories, one by Armando Carrascosa and Daniel Jung and the other by Markus Dickhardt and Dontia Haynes.

In singles play, all seven Aztecs notched wins. At number one singles, Benedikt Stronk defeated Justin Montgomery in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Chris Groh (6-2, 6-2) and Daniel Jung (6-1, 6-1) also won in two sets.

Later in the day, SDSU won at number one and two doubles to earn the doubles point. Stronk and Groh recorded an 8-1 victory over Jonas Jegers and Jamie Maxwell, while Dickhardt-Haynes downed Thibault Schram and Henrik Lilja by a score of 9-8 (10-8).

Similar to the morning match, the Aztecs swept all six singles matches in straight sets to win by a final margin of 7-0.

This marks the first time since 2001 that SDSU has notched two 7-0 wins in a season. In that year, the Aztecs won by a final score of 7-0 three times (Nevada, Bowling Green, at Air Force).

Stronk Named MWC Player of the Week
* Junior Benedikt Stronk was named Mountain West Conference player of the week. The award was the first handed out for the 2005 campaign.

The honor is the first of his career and comes after winning both his singles and doubles matches in the 2005 season opener at Southern California on Jan. 22.

Stronk defeated No. 97 Johan Berg of Southern California in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, at number two singles.

In doubles action, Stronk teamed with sophomore Chris Groh at number two doubles and took down USC's duo of Berg-Jeff Kazarian, 7-6 (6).

Stronk, who is in his first year at the Division I level, was one of two players to win a singles match and was one-half of the doubles team that recorded the only victory for the Aztecs in doubles play.
