COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior Benedikt Stronk has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Thursday. The honor is the third of his career and comes after winning both his singles and doubles matches on the road against 20th-ranked Southern California on Jan. 27.
After dropping the first set, Stronk stormed back to overtake Dejan Cvetkovic of USC in three sets, 1-6, 7-6, 6-3, at No. 1 singles.
In doubles action, the Berlin, Germany, native combined with junior Markus Dickhardt at the No.1 position to topple the Trojans' duo of Cvetkovic and Jamil Al-Agba, 9-7.
With the pair of victories, Stronk improved his record to 2-0 on the year at both No.1 singles and doubles.
SDSU, ranked 47th in latest collegiate poll, will return to the courts Sunday, Feb. 5, with a doubleheader at Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs will face Cal Poly beginning at 9:30 a.m. before squaring off against UC San Diego at 2:30 p.m.
