Men's Tennis Set for SDSU/USD Invite

Junior Hunter Nicholas and the Aztecs take on No. 72 Oklahoma State in the first round of the SDSU/USD Invite on Thursday.

SAN DIEGO - The No. 37 San Diego State Men's Tennis team will co-host the SDSU/USD Invite this weekend, as the Aztecs begin tournament play against No. 72 Oklahoma State on Thursday beginning at 2 p.m. PT at Aztec Tennis Center.

The Aztecs have won three-consecutive dual matches, the last of which was a victory over Utah, 5-2, on March 10, in Santa Barbara, Calif. Sophomore Thorsten Bertsch has won his last three singles matches and has catapulted into the rankings for the first time this season at No. 112. Senior Derek Siddiqui, the winner of two-straight singles matches, is currently ranked No. 74.

SDSU beat Oklahoma State last season, 5-2, in a dual match in Las Vegas, Nev. The Cowboys are 7-5 and are coming off a victory over Loyola Marymount, 6-1, on Tuesday. Oklahoma State's doubles team of Richard Del Nunzio and Denys Pume are ranked No. 43 in the nation.

Also in SDSU's bracket are Harvard and UAB, who play each other on Thursday at 10 a.m. PT at Aztec Tennis Center. The winners of the two matches face each other on Friday, as will both of Thursday's losing teams. At USD, Drake takes on Denver on Thursday, while the Toreros play host to Memphis.
