Men's Tennis Set to Face No. 4 USC on Tuesday

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team travels north for a big road test against No. 4 USC on Tuesday, March 25, beginning at 2 p.m. PT at Marks Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Aztecs (8-8, 3-0 MW) are coming off a victory over No. 73 Denver, 4-2, in the final round of the Mission Valley Hilton Spring Invitational on Saturday at San Diego Tennis and Racquet Club. The win snapped a three-match skid for SDSU.

Freshman Jonas Meinzer (Buggingen, Germany) earned his first-career dual-match victory against Denver, clinching the Aztecs' win after recording a decision over Aidan Talcott, 7-6 (2), 7-5, in No. 6 singles. In addition, senior Hunter Nicholas (Park City, Utah) got back to his winning ways with a decision over Diogo Rocha, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 2 slot, while freshman Milen Ianakiev (Elz, Germany) topped Alex Clinkenbeard, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 4 slot.

San Diego State also won the doubles to point to begin the day for the second-consecutive match, as the No. 1 duo of Nicholas and junior Andranik Khachatryan (Burbank, Calif.) knocked off Henry Craig and Alex Gasson, 8-5, with the No. 2 unit of sophomore Freddy Gelbrich (Isernhagen, Germany) and freshman Hendrik Jebens (Stuttgart, Germany) defeating Rocha and Fabio Biasion, 8-5.

USC is 17-2 this season and has won eight-straight dual matches after its road victory over Mississippi, 5-2, on March 19. The Trojans have six ranked singles players, including No. 3 Ray Sarmiento, No. 11 Yannick Hanfmann, No. 46 Jonny Wang, No. 64 Roberto Quiroz, No. 96 Max De Vroome and No. 118 Michael Grant. In addition, the USC doubles team of Sarmiento and Hanfmann is ranked eighth in the nation, while the Trojans duo of Grant and Nick Crystal is currently 49th.
