Men's Tennis Senior Day Set for Friday

The San Diego State men's tennis team is set to take on cross-town rival No. 29 San Diego at 5 p.m. PT on Friday, April 15 at the Aztec Tennis Center. The contest will serve as Senior Day for the Aztecs, who will be playing their last home contest of the regular season.

Outgoing seniors who will be celebrated at the event include Andre Feliz, Tim Schulz van Endert, Matthew Tosches and Giovanni Vaglietti.

SDSU is coming off a week that saw mixed results in Mountain West Conference play. The Aztecs handedly defeated Utah at home on April 7, 6-1, but then lost to No. 36 BYU on April 9, also at home, 5-2.

Despite the Aztecs' 4-14 record this season, their play has improved as of late and is being recognized around the league. Senior Giovanni Vaglietti was named the MWC Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday after going 4-0 in doubles and singles play, and the Aztecs have been dominant in doubles play. Early 1-0 leads could spell future success for the team as it approaches the MWC Championships.

Meanwhile, the Toreros feature the No. 15 doubles pairing in the country, senior Dean Jackson and junior Patrick Pholmann. USD is coming off a 5-2 win over No. 47 UC Irvine on Wednesday that snapped a three-contest slide. Prior to that streak, the Toreros were flat-out dominant, winning 12 straight contests from Feb 5 to March 25.

SDSU and USD have not met since the Toreros swept the Aztecs in both singles and doubles play in a non-team scoring event back on Jan. 15. The two teams were scheduled to meet back on Feb. 18 at the Aztec Tennis Center, but that match was postponed due to rain.
