The Aztecs have already competed in two other tournaments this fall season, including the ITA Men's All-American, as well as their own San Diego State Fall Invite last weekend at Aztec Tennis Center.
Senior Juan Florez (Bogota, Columbia) won Flight 3 in last week's SDSU Fall Invite, defeating Loyola Marymount's Daniel Simko, 6-4, 6-3, in the final round. Florez, who is 3-0 this fall season, went 12-11 in singles play last dual season, playing mostly in the No. 5 slot.
SDSU's doubles team of senior Hunter Nicholas (Park City, Utah) and Thorsten Bertsch (Mannheim, Germany) went 2-2 in the ITA Men's All-American Championships last weekend, earning impressive victories over Texas A&M's duo of Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant, 8-6, as well as San Francisco's unit of Bernardo Saraiva and Nils Skajaa, 8-4.
In addition, both Nicholas and Bertsch earned first-round victories in the singles qualifying draw, as Nicholas topped TCU's Arnau Dachs, 6-3, 6-3, while No. 114 Bertsch defeated Arkansas' Mike Nott in three sets, 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-3.
Following this weekend's tournament, the Aztecs wrap up the fall season next weekend in the ITA Regionals, beginning on Saturday, Oct. 19, in Malibu, Calif.
