#1 New Mexico 81, #8 San Diego State 52

  • With today's victory, New Mexico has now won seven straight MWC Championship games dating back to the 2003 tournament, a Mountain West record. The Lobos won the 2003 and 2004 MWC Championship titles.

  • New Mexico dominated inside as the Lobos outscored SDSU, 50-20, in the paint, including a 26-10 advantage in the second half.

  • New Mexico set a MWC Championship record for field goals in a game with 31, breaking BYU's record of 30 set in 2000.

  • The Lobos also set a MWC Championship record for field-goal percentage in a game as they shot 58.5 percent (31-for-53), including 69.6 percent (16-for-23) in the first half.

  • With 81 points today, New Mexico is just the third team to top 80 points in MWC Championship history (Utah, 83 vs. Air Force, 2003 and BYU, 82 vs. Wyoming, 2002)

  • San Diego State set a school record for fewest turnovers in a single season. The Aztecs committed 15 today and 454 this season.

  • San Diego State sophomore Michelle Elliott is now third on the Aztec career three-point chart with 83 treys.

  • New Mexico won its three games vs. San Diego State this season by a combined 68 points. Today's game was the largest margin of the three contests (29 points).The Lobos have now won 12 straight games over San Diego State dating back to March 2001.

  • New Mexico outrebounded San Diego State, 40-17, led by guard Mandi Moore with 11 rebounds, which tied her career high. The Lobos held an 18-8 edge on the boards in the first half. Mandi Moore had eight boards in the opening stanza, as many as the entire Aztec team.

  • San Diego State came out hot to open the second half as the Aztecs scored seven of the half's first nine points to close to within 45-36 three minutes in. SDSU trailed by just 11 points (55-44 with 11:51 to play) but New Mexico went on a 10-2 run to open its lead to 65-46 with 6:24 to play.

  • New Mexico went on a 12-4 run over the last 4:26 of the first half to open up a 43-26 advantage at the break.

  • Lindsey Arndt scored New Mexico's first four points, while Michelle Strawberry scored the first five points of the game for San Diego State. Arndt scored 10 points in the opening half to lead New Mexico.

  • New Mexico trailed 3-2 in the early going before rattling off an 11-0 run to go up 13-3 in the first four minutes of the game. It was the only time the Lobos would trail. SDSU then scored six straight points to close it to within four at 13-9 before the Lobos scored another seven unanswered to increase their lead to 20-9 with 12:53 to play in the half.
