After ending 2009 on a high note, the San Diego State women's basketball team (8-4) opens the 11th season of Mountain West Conference action on Wednesday, as the Aztecs travel to New Mexico to take on the Lobos at 7 p.m. MST (6 p.m. PST) at The Pit in Albuquerque.

SDSU enters Wednesday's league opener on a four-game win streak, having gone 5-1 during the month of December. The Aztecs claimed their second consecutive San Diego Surf `N Slam title with victories over Wake Forest and reigning SEC regular-season champ Auburn.

San Diego State has been picked to win the Mountain West Conference in 2010, after finishing as regular-season co-champions with Utah in 2009. SDSU is coming off its best-ever MWC record at 13-3 and advanced to the conference tournament championship game for the second straight season.

New Mexico, meanwhile, sports an identical 8-4 mark in 2009-10, including a 6-3 record on its home court. The Aztecs won for the first time at The Pit since February 2001, by recording a 57-52 win on Jan. 21, 2009, breaking a 19-game losing streak in Albuquerque. SDSU went on to sweep the season series for the first time in 13 years with a 75-64 victory in San Diego.

Wednesday's game will feature a live audio call by Chris Ello, while live stats will also be available on the Aztecs' official website, goaztecs.com.
