#AztecWBB Faces Road Test at Boise State Wednesday
Jan. 6, 2014
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team makes the first road trip of its 2014 Mountain West schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 8, when it squares off against Boise State at Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho. Game time is set for 7 p.m. MT (6 p.m. PT).
The Aztecs (3-8, 0-1 MW) are coming off a narrow 64-61 defeat to Colorado State in their MW opener at home on Jan. 2. SDSU was plagued by a rash of fouls in the second half as the Rams sank 12 of 16 free throws in the final 7:16 to pull out the victory.
The Aztecs were led by senior Cierra Warren, who posted her first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman Ariell Bostick recorded personal-bests of 16 points and eight boards. In addition, SDSU received a double-digit scoring performance from senior Danesha Long, who finished with 12 points to go with five rebounds.
Warren is second in the Mountain West with a .585 field-goal percentage (62-106) and ranks eighth with 14.1 points per game. The SDSU center owns two of the top single-game performances in the MW this season (14 FGs at Sac State and 9-10 FGs at UCSB) and has eclipsed the 20 point-barrier on three occasions this season.
As a team, the Aztecs top the MW with a .430 field-goal percentage and ranks first in rebounding defense as well, allowing just 34.5 boards per game.
Elsewhere, SDSU ranks among the league leaders for all games in rebounding margin (2nd - +3.4), blocked shots (5th - 3.2/gm) and steals (5th - 8.2/gm).
The Aztecs are 5-0 all-time against the Broncos, including a 2-0 mark in Boise, claiming a 69-59 decision at Taco Bell Arena in 2012 and a 64-40 conquest there in 2013.
The Broncos (5-7, 0-1 MW), who were picked to finish eighth out of 11 teams in the preseason MW poll, dropped a 72-63 decision at Fresno State in their conference opener on Jan. 4.
SDSU will be pursuing its fifth straight victory in a conference road opener after winning at Colorado State in 2013, TCU in 2012, UNLV in 2011 and New Mexico in 2010. Prior to that stretch, the Aztecs dropped eight consecutive MW road lid-lifters from 2002-09.
SDSU will also look to extend its regular-season Mountain West road winning streak to nine games. Last season, the Aztecs became just the second team in league history to post an 8-0 record on the road in conference play after Utah accomplished the feat in 2008.
