Aztecs Seek Seventh Straight Win At Preseason MWC Favorite Utah Sunday
SDSU, which is receiving votes in the latest Associated Press national poll, will look to secure its first victory over the Utes in Salt Lake City since January 1995. Utah had won 18 straight in the series since MWC league play began in 1999, before the Aztecs finally broke through in 2007 with a 71-66 victory in San Diego. The Utes, however, bounced back to take the two games a year ago.
San Diego State got off to a perfect start in 2009 league play earlier this week with a 79-28 rout of visiting Air Force to improve to a perfect 7-0 at home. The Aztecs won their first Mountain West Conference opener since 2005, but have come out on the winning end just once in their first road MWC game of a campaign.
The Utes, meanwhile, won the conference regular season crown a year ago with a perfect 16-0 mark and advanced to the NCAA championships. Utah was picked to finish first in the league again this year, but enters this Sunday's contest with an 8-6 record, including a win at Wyoming on Wednesday.
This Sunday's game will be televised live on The Mtn. with Ann Schatz (play-by-play) and Tracy Warren (color) making the call from the Huntsman Center. It is the Aztecs' second consecutive TV game and its second of five contests shown live or via tape delay on The Mtn. A live audio feed, featuring Chris Ello, as well as live stats, will be available on goaztecs.com.
