Aztec Women's Basketball Looks To Regroup Saturday Against Colorado St.
Jan. 27, 2010
Following a bye in its conference slate earlier this week, the San Diego State women's basketball team looks to regroup on Saturday, when the Aztecs play host to Colorado State, beginning at 2 p.m. PT, at Viejas Arena.
SDSU dropped its second straight road game last Saturday, falling to then second-place Brigham Young, 73-63, at the Marriott Center in Provo. The Aztecs trimmed an early 14-point deficit all the way down to just a single point on two occasions in the second half, but were never able to gain a lead. The loss dropped SDSU back into third place in the league standings behind both the Cougars and TCU, who are tied at 4-1.
Colorado State, meanwhile, is one of the most improved squads in the league this season, entering its game at TCU on Wednesday with an 11-7 overall record, including a 3-2 mark in MWC action with back-to-back wins over UNLV and New Mexico. The Rams' 11 victories are their most since the 2004-05 campaign.
A year ago, San Diego State and CSU played a pair of outings decided by a combined three points, as the Aztecs came away with a 62-61 victory in San Diego on a last second basket and held on in a 68-66 decision in Fort Collins. The one-point win over the Rams last January is part of SDSU's impressive home Mountain West Conference win streak, which currently stands at 13 straight dating back to the 2007-08 season.
Saturday's contest, which features two of the conference's top scorers in Aztec Jené Morris (San Francisco, Calif.) and Ram Kim Mestdagh, will include a live audio and video call with Chris Ello, as well as live stats on goaztecs.com.
