SAN DIEGO -
San Diego State head coach Beth Burns
"We are excited, it's a really big week for us. We played very well against an aggressive Air Force team, and came in with great bounce and energy in practice yesterday. Everybody knows it's a big week. Everybody knows a victory against Boise State would have us sweeping the road (games) in round one (of conference play), which is huge. And it continues our opportunity to control our own destiny for a MW championship. There's a lot of challenges. Boise State along with a couple other teams, have really been hit with some injuries. Without question (Boise State) has the best center in the league. Lauren Lenhardt is a double-double machine. We will have our hands full with her. But at the same time, they have good speed on the perimeter, so we know it's going to be a good game."
On what it says about the team if they win the first round of conference road games:
"I think the best thing is we didn't come back after Christmas very sharp for whatever reason. We weren't sharp starting conference and we gave up 80 points in our conference opener at home against Fresno State. I really felt at that point we had to start defending or nothing else really matters. I think more than anything, we've continued to improve. And this is right when you want to start getting that momentum to start building. First we've had incredible point-guard play. Chelsea Hopkins has carried us through some rough spots. It's hard to win on the road. We're the defending champions, and most of our opponents we've beaten two or three times a year ago. So I'll watch a team on film and they're a different team when they play the Aztecs. They remember the previous year. So we've taken people's best shots as we've continued along this stretch. So we're excited for where we are and be in position to control our own destiny and not have to hope other teams lose."
